Utility was not the only thing anticipated in the font. Character and recognizability were equally important. These qualities are revealed in the geometry, the details of which make the typeface not strictly Helvetian.

Certainly, there have been various schools of thought that talked about function and its subsequent form. But it was the modernists who aestheticized rationality for us.
The Hexagon Type is a reinterpretation of that school. Functionality makes this typeface suitable for different contexts. We found a way to deliver our messages effectively.

As a font, its function is to convey information. In our typeface, we also wanted to express the attitude towards presenting the information.

He and other modernists were the inspiration for this typeface. The "form follows function" principle is a spirit of neutrality and rationality of Hexagon Type. Simplicity carries both utility and beauty—this is what the modernists have taught us.

"Hallo!
“Hello! I remember when we started designing the Hexagon Type, the main idea was to create a readable but detailed geometric grotesk. To speak in a modern but rather restrained form. To be comfortable but not faceless. I like the openness of form and utilitarianism. It looks so very important to the graphics.”

and today
it’s worldwide
We are united by the desire
to see our work done.
But we lacked the tool to talk about it
We wanted a neutral font without decorative details. Such a font would fit our idea of universality and help us communicate. Neutral, straightforward, another grotesk—you can pick up many words. For us, it's organicaly ours and we see that it works

How would you define good communication design? Well-executed design cannot only represent a subject but create a field of meanings around it. When an idea has a story, it helps spread, transport and explain itself. A good communication design pushes people to find out more about what they have just viewed.

Where do you see future challenges in communication design? Millennials saw the
transition from offline to online with its over-whelming information flows. Generation C will grow up with lullabies from streaming services and will
probably face AR and VR mediums at a tender age. The first challenge is to stay interesting for all individuals. The second one is to communicate global challenges that are heading our way in a rapid and uncontrolled manner.

To what extent do you think new technologies are changing design? The modern design school no longer teaches us techniques as methods are widely available on YouTube and don’t seem like a re-velation. It instead teaches us design thinking. By preserving and improving that, no technology will scare designers.
